GQ Australia – a men’s magazine that photographs and publishes the model stars of the day – has decided to put Robyn Lawley – a size 16, plus-size woman – in its “Girls of the Week” section, according to a Huffington Post article on Tuesday. Lawley, according to GQ Australia, is a plus-size model if you want to call her that, but – they assert – why not go with the magazine’s preferred adjective of “hot.”
In the publication, the beautiful Lawley is placed beside other models of the day, including Shanina Shaik, Mila Kunis, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
The photos of Lawley were taken by Pierre Toussaint. In the photos, Lawley is seen in jeans, a chambray shirt, and an unzipped gray hoodie – and the provocative “hands bra” in which she wears nothing on top but lets her hand cover her breasts for the photo. It’s a topless pose that has become quite fashionable in the industry.
According to the GQ Australia interview with Lawley for the November 2013 issue, she said she’s got big hips and a big body – double and triple the size of other models – and she embraces that fact. She says, “I own it.”
Again, this is a bold move by GQ Australia – not an American magazine which hasn’t taken that plunge into its method of featuring models in its publications – yet.
