Robin Williams puts 'Villa of Smiles' estate up for sale

Robin Williams, known for being one of the funniest actors in Hollywood, has decided to put his "Villa of Smiles" estate in Nappa Valley on the market according to Yahoo! Home on Friday, April 25, 2014. The estate was listed two years ago for $35 million. The new listing price is a drastic reduction at only $29.9 million.

Williams named the property Villa Sorriso when he originally purchased the property approximately ten years ago. Villa Sorriso means "smile" in Italian. When the property was put up for sale, real estate agents nicknamed the luxurious listing as "Villa of Smiles."

The property spans 650 acres of land surrounding the mansion that carries a rich Italian Renaissance architectural design. The grounds include a vineyard covering 18 acres, which Williams claims is his main reason for selling the property. In an interview with Parade Magazine (see video), Williams stated that he can no longer afford to keep spraying the vineyard with costly chemicals after two "costly" divorces. The vineyard is planted in premium grapes and is currently a vineyard making a profit. The grapes are sold exclusively to the Robert Craig Winery, a highly respected winery that produces premium wines.

The Villa itself has many outstanding features, including a gold leaf ceiling in the library. In the midst of the gold leaf ceiling are three mother of pearl panels with inscriptions in Latin. One of the sayings transcribed says, "Love conquers all." Other ceilings in the home are also quite astonishing featuring vaulted ceilings, coffered, tiled or gilded.

Hanging from the unique ceilings throughout the Villa, chandeliers are just as outstanding as the ceilings they hang from. The entry hall features a huge "globe chandelier" that welcomes guests to the beautiful Villa. The dining room has an exclusive Murano glass chandelier that was commissioned from the company.

The property also features a spring-fed pond stocked with bass, tennis courts, several "safe rooms," sculptured gardens, and a private area leading off the master bedroom for enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

Other exciting news coming from Williams is that his role as "Mrs. Doubtfire" will be coming back to life.
