Attending funerals is never a happy occasion for those left behind. It is a reminder of Hebrews 9:27 which declares, “it is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment”.

There is a disquieting uncertainty regarding death to those that have no allegiance to spirituality or any brand of religion. Unfortunately you cannot bluff death as in a poker game where people make it a practice to make winning hands out of a jack high. It is amusing to watch all-star poker games where professional player go “all in” on suspect poker hands hoping to buffalo their opponents or opponent.

The suicide of comic genius Robin Williams has stunned many people, and due to Williams’ tremendous impromptu gift of humor which is unequaled in the entertainment business, many in the media and other venues have been claiming that Williams is in heaven making God laugh. God does have a sense of humor, but not about salvation.

Few know the spiritual position of Williams who presented a complexity of personas to a public that was prolifically endeared to him. It is said that his mother was a Christian-Scientist, a philosophy that flirts with some of the basics of Christianity. Robin Williams’ father was an Episcopalian, a more liberal brand of Christianity that has incorporated some doctrine that is tied to a secular philosophy.

As talented, generous, and loveable Williams was, there is an uncompromising standard that still is the acid test for entrance to the pearly gates that so much humor has been made about. God does have a sense of humor, but not about salvation.

A Christian obtains the gift of salvation through the gift of grace alone, lest any man should boast. There are many humans that attempt to find a back entrance into heaven because it is man’s nature to have options and to be an exception to the rule. Many claim there is no such thing as absolute right or wrong, and continually search for other options or other avenues to gain paradise.

Rebellion and disobedience are as natural to humans as wet is to water. There are a plethora of stories dealing with Bible prophets, kings, priests, and common people that fell victim to their nature for sinning. One of the defining building blocks to rebellion and disobedience is pride, the first thing that makes God’s hate list in Proverbs 6:16-18.

Nobody on this planet knows the spiritual condition of Robin Williams or whether he made a confession before killing himself. Some say that since Williams committed suicide that he will not be allowed into heaven. This is a false assumption because knowledgeable Bible scholars know that there is only one unforgivable sin, and it is not suicide.

The Bible reveals that it is God’s desire that none perish, however God does not force His will on anyone. One can go to Romans 8: 28-30 and the process God uses to accomplish His will is clearly stipulated. Foreknowledge works with predestination and God uses His divine knowledge of all things to predestine some for good or evil. Each is called to perform their human action that God intertwines to His perfect will.

That is why Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose”. In a magnificent display of orchestration, God uses all things, even evil, to bring His will into fruition. The betrayal of Jesus and all things working together both good and evil were done without the violation of the human will. Even Jesus had to submit to God’s plan of salvation.

There was only one way into the Israelite Tabernacle, there was one way into the Jewish Temple into the Holy of Holies, and there is one way into heaven according to the Author and Finisher of our faith, Jesus Christ.

God has a zero tolerance for sin and does not include everyone failing to meet His irrefutable standard. There are no acceptable self-help books that bypasses God’s standard. Nobody has “control” over their life because control is an illusion. A loving God does not send anyone to hell, but cannot stop the free will of one deciding to go there. Those in denial of eternity are taking a tremendous gamble.

Robin Williams already made the decision for his ultimate destination which is by God’s rules, not the rules or exceptions of man. Accountability and responsibility are typically not something humans enjoy adhering to, but there is a final test question that will determine whether you face Christ as your defense attorney or prosecutor;

Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?

God does have a sense of humor, but not about salvation.
