Paula Patton and Robin Thicke have split after nine years of marriage. People reported the details on Feb. 24.

It's been a tumultuous year for Robin Thicke, though until now his marriage seemed to be relatively solid. Now, however, that clearly is no longer the case. The pair gave People a statement Monday saying that while they will always love one another and “be best friends,” they have mutually decided to split.

Robin and Paula met when Thicke was 14-years-old and they got married in 2005. They have one son together, Julian, who was born in April 2010. The Paula Patton and Robin Thicke split comes months after several other high-profile controversies surrounding Thicke.

Thicke's song “Blurred Lines” faced harsh criticism for its controversial content, and then of course there was the Miley Cyrus VMA performance. Just after that, a photo of Robin hugging a “fan” after a VMA after-party became public. The photo from the front wasn't the issue, but was was seen in a mirror behind the duo brought forth new waves of criticism.

Throughout all of these eyebrow-raising controversies, Paula Patton seemingly stood by her man. The two aren't sharing specifics on what led to the split, but all of these issues couldn't have helped keep the marriage strong.
