The titles just keep on coming for Robin Romeo of Newhall.

Her latest championship came Thursday when she won three matches in the stepladder finals to claim the 2014 United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Romeo, a USBC Hall of Famer, defeated top-seeded Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., 241-188, to win the $3,500 first-place prize.

Romeo reached the finals with a 234-191 win over 2011 Senior Queen champion Paula Vidad of Sun City, Calif. Earlier, Romeo scored a 217-191 victory over defending champion Lucy Sandelin of Tampa, Fla.

Two years earlier, Romeo won the 2012 U.S. Senior Women’s Open, becoming the first woman bowler to claim both a U.S. Women’s Open and Senior U.S. Women’s Open championship.

Romeo won the U.S. Women’s Open in 1989, a year in which she was named the women’s bowler of the year.

After winning the U.S. Senior Open, Romeo said: “As you get older, you don’t think you’ll ever win [a major] again. But if you’re competitive when you’re 20, you’ll be competitive when you’re 50.

“After I won [the Senior Open], someone said there’s nothing like winning. And it’s true. It never gets old.”

With the Senior Queens title, the 57-year-old Romeo has now won four major titles, which includes a championship in the Sams Town Invitational in 1993.

Romeo has a long list of credentials. She has bowled more than 20 certified perfect games. The first time she competed in a West Coast Senior Tour event – 10 years ago – she won it.

Fifty-six bowlers aged 50 and older took part in the 2014 Senior Queens.
