Howard Stern's sidekick Robin Quivers says a plant-based diet provided her with the ammunition she needed to win her battle with cancer. Now she's an advocate of vegan diets and juicing, she said in a recent interview with the New York Daily News.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Robin underwent surgery as well as chemotherapy. She believes that her vegan diet helped her recover from the experience, noting that she's been given a clean bill of health by her doctors. In addition to following a vegan diet, Robin is a "juicehead," according to the New York Daily News. Her new book includes recipes for smoothies as well as plant-based meals and snacks: "The Vegucation of Robin: How Real Food Saved My Life."

However, as Robin discusses in her book, it took her a few diet experiments before she became a vegan. She turned to the Master Cleanse detox initially, gulping down the required concoction of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup for 21 days. Although she lost weight on that regime, Robin gained it all back when she ate normally again.

Next up: “21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox,” which helped somewhat, says Robin. However, it was a vegan diet that really made the difference then and now.

"But when I started eating clean, it all stopped," Robin says in her book. "I couldn't believe the difference I saw."

In addition to discussing her shift to veganism, the book includes more than plant-based 90 recipes, from a peach smoothie to grilled portabella mushroom burgers.
