Robin Kelly endorsed by Congressman Bobby Rush and Danny Davis as support grows (Photos)

Robin Kelly continued to receive major endorsements in her quest to become Congresswoman from the 2nd Illinois Congressional district. The latest endorsement was announced on Sunday at the Little Black Pearl Art Center near Hyde Park, and just blocks from the home of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and their family. Congressmen Bobby Rush and Danny Davis came out in strong support of Robin Kelly's candidacy.

As the issue of gun violence will be center stage at President Barack's State of the Union Address on Tuesday, the issue of guns, gun control and the reduction of violence is on the mind of President Obama as the White House reports he will be visiting Chicago this Friday.

The national media, including Politico, has stood up and taken notice of Robin Kelly's strong position on gun violence and of this growing "grassroots" campaign to elect Robin Kelly, a candidate that has firmly stood up to the National Rifle Association.

With the backdrop of Chicago’s rising tide of violence, and in the wake of the tragic Newtown shootings, the race has focused heavily on the issue of gun control. Kelly has hammered Halvorson and Hutchinson over their past support from the National Rifle Association while casting herself as a fierce supporter of gun control measures. And Halvorson has faced attacks from a super PAC funded by billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg over her opposition to gun control.

Congressman Bobby Rush couldn't have agreed more with Politico. “Our communities are facing an epidemic of gun violence, and we need more members of Congress who can be trusted to fight for common sense gun control measures. Robin Kelly is a woman of integrity and conviction, and President Obama, Congressman Davis and I need her as our partner in ending gun violence,” said Congressman Bobby Rush.

Congressman Danny Davis also agreed. “Robin Kelly has the kind of pragmatism that you need to get results in Washington, while never compromising her beliefs like many do. If we are going to stop the NRA in their tracks, and make our communities safe again, Robin Kelly is the right woman for the job.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Congressmen Rush and Davis, and look forward to working with them and our President to rid our streets of dangerous weapons, and make the second Congressional district a place where people are proud to live, work and raise their families,” said Robin Kelly.

The strong show of support from Congressmen Rush and Davis, comes on the heels of the coveted endorsement of the Chicago Tribune. In strong language the Chicago Tribune said the Robin Kelly "is not a show-boater. She won't dazzle you with ebullience. She doesn't grandstand. She just works hard."

It is Robin Kelly's work ethic that is noticed by anyone who has spent time with her. The Chicago Tribune added in its endorsement of Robin Kelly, that the "next member of Congress" must be "trustworthy, forthright and independent," with an ability to "balance the issues of affordable housing and high unemployment with the needs of farmers, tea party activists and stay-at-home moms." The endorsement editorial also said that the "next member of Congress will "need to hit the ground sprinting," given that the seat has been open since November.

The Chicago Tribune also cites Robin Kelly's integrity and pragmatism, something that Congressmen Bobby Rush cited in his endorsement speech.

On Friday, Robin Kelly also received the endorsement of over 100 ministers. who are members of the International Ministers & Community Alliance at the Holy Zion Church in Chicago.

Honorary Chairman of IMCA Dr. Willie Wilson and current President Dr. John T. Gray were on hand to officiate the ceremony, and cited the importance of Robin Kelly’s leadership and commitment to ending gun violence as a key factor in endorsement.

In his endorsement of Robin Kelly, Dr. Willie Wilson said, “We have an opportunity to make the right choice. That choice is Robin Kelly.”

In another important endorsement that continues to pay dividends for the Robin Kelly campaign just ten days ago, Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos endorsed Robin Kelly for Congress in a move that solidifies her standing as the "true" progressive in the race for the Illinois 2nd Congressional district. Markos Moulitsas is "the leading" progressive voice in America and the Daily Kos is "the leading" progressive platform in America.

Markos Moulitsas says that to help deal a blow to the NRA's continued power in Congress, The Daily Kos is enthusiastically supporting Robin Kelly in the upcoming Illinois 2nd Congressional District primary. Markos says that you can help by contributing $3 (or more!) to her campaign.

The amount of money raised is edging close to $100,000, with nearly 4,095 individual donors have given close to $95,277 to the Robin Kelly for Congress campaign through the Act Blue website.

In addition, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Super PAC, Independence USA, has poured nearly one million dollars into the race. The momentum is moving toward the Robin Kelly campaign and overwhelming her opponents campaigns.
