Roberta Flack comeback single previews album of Beatles songs

Roberta Flack will channel the Beatles in a new comeback single released this week ahead of a full album of Beatles songs out early next year.

The Lennon-McCartney song "We Can Work It Out," the first single, will debut Tuesday (Sept. 27) on iTunes. The album, due in February on 429 Records, will feature her interpretations of Beatles songs. It will be her first long player in eight years.

"My passion for this project comes from the magical genius of the greatest songwriters of all time. Love, inspiration, friendship and my own life's lessons come together when I sing the songs they created. I am honored to be a part of the fabulous legacy of the Beatles," Flack said in a press release announcing the record.

The album was produced by Sherrod Barnes, who has also produced Beyonce and Angie Stone, with additional contributions from Jerry Barnes and Barry Miles.

Flack was the headliner at a tribute concert for George Harrison in New York earlier this year promoted by Sid Bernstein, the man who staged the Beatles' Carnegie Hall and Shea Stadium concerts. She was also among the perfomers at the One-to-One benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in 1972 where the "John Lennon: Live in New York City" album and film was made.
