Robert Schimmel just may be the most depressed comedian in the world--besides Artie Lange of course.
Comedian Robert Schimmel visited the Howard Stern Show studios on Thursday morning and delivered a miserable recounting of his messy divorce from his wife Melissa Schimmel and his battle with cirrhosis of the liver.
Bob Schimmel’s ugly split from his wife Melissa became official in May 2009. The divorce followed a domestic violence charge for Robert Schimmel after an argument that resulting from the comedian planting a recording device in his wife's car to catch her chaeting. The domestic violence charges were later found to be insufficient to warrant prosecution.
Howard Stern got down and dirty with the longtime Howard Stern Show friend and regular guest. In an attempt to create some order out of the horrific details of Schimmel’s ruined relationship, Howard Stern asked the comedian:
“Do you feel you wronged her in any way?”
Robert Schimmel thought for a moment and the replied: “No. I don’t know what I could have done wrong," but then later added. “Maybe her dream wasn’t to be sitting at home alone with kids and I’m on the road.”
But a wretched divorce with two kids in the middle isn’t all that’s on Robert Schimmel’s big, sad, sorry plate. Schimmel is also in dire need of a new liver. He announced on today’s Howard Stern Show that he has been diagnosed with cirrhosis and is now on the waiting list for a liver transplant.
Howard Stern halted Schimmel’s riffs about his own misfortune towards the end of the interview and stated: “All jokes aside. You don’t deserve this.”
Robert Schimmel is also a heart attack and cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2000 and wrote a book entitled: ‘Cancer on $5 a Day**(chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life.”

Jesus. What a wreck!
i've never liked this guy. i think this is all his karma coming back to him. anybody who leaves their wife for the friend of his own daughter is a dirtbag. i don't feel sorry for him at all. and i don't think he's funny either.
At least he isn't a whiny crybaby like Artie!
