Robert Pattinson: I want to have better abs and hair than Taylor Lautner (pics)

Robert Pattinson says his rivalry with co-star Taylor Lautner is just as competitive off-screen as it is on-screen in Twilight: Eclipse.

"I want to have better hair than him," Pattinson joked June 14 on NBC's Today Show. "I want to have a better six-pack (laughs). No, he's great. I've been close with him throughout the whole series."

In the Twilight saga, Robert's character, vampire Edward Cullen, and Taylor's werewolf character Jacob Black, are vying for the affections of Bella (Kristen Stewart).

In reality, Pattinson, 24, and Stewart, 20, are dating, but all three of the young stars have been flying around the world, promoting Eclipse, the third installment in the blockbuster Twilight franchise.

'TAYLOR'S SHOULDER WAS SO HUGE I COULDN'T GRAB IT'

Lautner, 18, who has generated a ton of press for his ripped physique, was so buff that Rob found certain scenes with him difficult. 

“There are a couple of scenes where I was supposed to push [Lautner] around a little bit,” Pattinson recounted. “It wasn’t in the script, but I thought, ‘I'll scare him and grab his shoulder and freak him out.’ So I turned around and grabbed his shoulder — and his shoulder was too big for me to get a grip on! All of Twilight's young stars had to undergo up to four hours a day of fight training for the amped-up action scenes in Eclipse.

Lautner, a former junior world karate cham, likes Eclipse the most of the Twilight films so far.

"[Eclipse] is my favorite one because it's the most guy-friendly by far," says Lautner. "It's dangerous, there's a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It's great."

Meanwhile, Pattinson, who skyrocketed to international fame after his star-making turn in Twilight, isn't looking forward to filming Breaking Dawn (the last installment in the Twilight saga, who will be broken into two separate movies).

'FILMING BREAKING DAWN WILL BE TOUGH'

"Just because it's a long shoot," Rob says. "The last time, when we were shooting Eclipse in Vancouver, the entire paparazzi population of L.A. came up and just camped outside the hotel. So, if it's in Vancouver, I'll probably end up getting cabin fever and end up jumping off the balcony."

Eclipse, which co-stars Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart, comes out June 30.
