Robert Pattinson has had such great fortune during the past two years that he secretly fears the universe will compensate for it by making sure he dies young.

"I guess I just thought if too many good things happen, then you're going to die at 30," Pattinson, 24, tells Nightline June 14. "I don't want that to happen. It's God saying, 'Hey, you shouldn't have asked for too much.'"

Before young fans get alarmed, it's important to note that Robert is English, and has that wry British sense of humor [Translation: Don't take everything he says literally, or at face value].

Pattinson, who skyrocketed to international superstardom after his star-making turn as Edward Cullen in the 2009 blockbuster Twilight, says adjusting to mega-fame has been hard.

'FAME MAKES YOU PARANOID'

"It's not what people tell you when people warn you of being an actor," says Robert, who gets chased by paparazzi wherever he goes. [see slideshow below]

He adds: "I used to spend a lot of time walking in cities by myself, and I can't really do that without being a little paranoid. You get better at hiding and you get better at choosing which areas are the right areas to go to. And you also get better at interacting with strangers." Pattinson, who is currently promoting his upcoming film Twilight: Eclipse, insists he's still the same insecure bloke he was two years ago, when he was an unknown, anxiety-ridden actor.

'I TOOK VALIUM BEFORE TWILIGHT AUDITION'

In fact, Robert was so insecure and anxious before his Twilight audition that he popped a Valium before meeting with the director and his co-star Kristen Stewart.

"Um, that was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made [taking a Valium]," he joked. "I remember thinking, 'I want to get a prescription for these.'"

And Twilight's off-the-charts success has only made him more anxious and insecure.

"When something becomes big, you just think expectations are higher," Pattinson explains. "It's a weird sort of dichotomy: it's become big because people obviously like something that you're doing, and as it becomes bigger, you get more fearful of what you're actually doing."

ECLIPSE WILL HAVE INTENSE FIGHT SCENES

Meanwhile, expect to see more fight scenes in Eclipse. The action sequences were so amped-up that the entire cast underwent some four hours a day of fight training.

In fact, co-star Taylor Lautner has proclaimed Eclipse his favorite Twilight film so far. "[Eclipse] is my favorite one because it's the most guy-friendly by far," gushes Lautner, 18. "It's dangerous, there's a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It's great."

Eclipse, which co-stars Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart, comes out June 30.
