Robert Pattinson comments on 'The Hunger Games' and another franchise role -- British actor Robert Pattinson, who stars in one of the most commercially successful young adult book-to-film franchises in recent years, the Twilight series, has commented on another book adaptation in the works, The Hunger Games, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins.
According to Entertainment Weekly Saturday, Mr. Pattinson said about The Hunger Games, "I sort of came across it last year, and I didn’t realize it was the most enormous thing in the year. It’s good! It will be a good movie."
Asked, especially after starring in five films of a mega-franchise, if he would ever consider another role in a big project like Twilight he said that he would, but with a qualification -- "I’d want to have more input. The only horrible thing about being part of a franchise…well, not horrible…no, it is horrible…is that the bigger and bigger you get, it’s quite difficult to break out of stuff. When you’ve been playing the same part, you can’t suddenly start playing it differently. It takes away a little bit of the creative kind of … urge."
Robert Pattinson may be feeling the relative lack of growth in his Twilight character, vampire Edward Cullen, as he finishes up the fifth and final movie based on the four-book series. While Edward Cullen's love interest, Bella Swan, undergoes several challenges and changes as she matures in the series, the vampire who has loved her since they first met has had a more limited plot journey, especially in the storylines of the last two books.
Robert Pattinson has already branched out from the Twilight saga in terms of acting roles. His next movie to hit theaters will be Water for Elephants, based on the bestselling novel by Sara Gruen. The movie comes out next month.
