According to Radar Online on Jan. 1, it looks as if "Iron Man's" Robert Downey, Jr. is making strides to recruit old friends Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It appears that Downey, Jr. may have some influence in the casting process due to his rather successful career in this significant franchise. Sources reveal how these two big time celebrities are close friends with Downey, Jr. and how he's really pushing to get them on board.
“He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films. It’s been a longtime dream of Robert’s to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he’s achieved in recent years".
Foster, who had starred already in the recent science fiction film, "Elysium", could already be viewed as the kind of actress that could pull off this job. However, Gibson may be a different story.
His recent DUI and his ability to get along with his celebrity peers have been quite problematic. Gibson had made anti-semantic comments during his arrest. A source expressed that this could be a serious roadblock to any kind of break through role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Marvel is run by one of the richest and most prominent Israeli businessmen in Hollywood, and you can be sure even if Robert got down on his knees and begged, there’s no place for Mel in the Marvel films".
There is even an existence of Downey, Jr. suggesting that Gibson be cast to play the U.S. President in "Iron Man 3", however that idea was quickly shot down, yet he is still continues to push to get his friend on board the comic book movie franchise.
