There were hundreds of Japanese fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the De Niro at the festival's main venue in the glitzy Roppongi district of Tokyo.
De Niro showed up in Japan for the Tokyo International Film Festival's screening of his latest project, "The Family." De Niro was accompanied by his charming wife Grace Hightower in the upscale Roppongi district of Tokyo. After working his way through the crowd of Japanese fans, signing autographs and several local media interviews, De Niro said, “Japanese fans are so well behaved. At festivals in the West people are usually screaming and going crazy, but everyone is so polite here.” De Niro described the script for "The Family" as being “simple and fun.”
The Chinese news agency Xinhua has reported, "Tokyo International Film Festival kicks off." The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) had a dynamic kick off with a number of Hollywood stars in town for the internationally renown event. The top prize in the international film section known as "Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix" is as high as 50,000 U.S. dollars. Robert de Niro added a lot of excitement to the affair as could be seen in the eyes of his many admiring Japanese fans.
