Rob Cantor has been banging around the edges of fame the last few years, but he may have just found his niche.
Posting a video to YouTube on July 1, Cantor sings an original song called "Perfect", which is a pretty little ditty all by itself. But what Rob Cantor brings to the performance is something altogether different.
Rendering the philosophically sweet tune in 29 different celebrity voices, the meaning and emotion of the song is transformed and elevated into something more poignant.
Don't ask. It just works.
Rob Cantor (ably accompanied by Andrew Horowitz on a broken down, upright piano) hits one or two weak notes with a few of the celebs, but what he gets right makes up for those minor shortcomings.
Cantor has been building a solid reputation as a musical wag since signing a record deal with his first group, Tally Hall, a few years back. Alas, that project fell through. But, luckily Rob Cantor is parlaying the attention into something more tangible.
Hopefully, there will be more celebrity impressions videos posted to Rob Cantor's YouTube channel as he continues to be noticed for pointing out the odd and arcane through whimsical, thought provoking (and seriously talented) musical interpretations.
Who knew Flipper could sing like that?
