Unlike the professional golfers in the 2013 BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Course in Lake Forest, Ill., the amateur golfers at Robert A. Black Golf Course (This golf course is at 2045 W. Pratt Boulevard.) in Chicago finished their tournament on Sunday, Sep. 15, 2013. Rain fell at both locations, but it was heavier in Lake Forest. Zach Johnson was the 2013 BMW Champion and Rob Bruce was the 18th Annual International champion.
Using Modified Stableford scoring, Rob Bruce’s, two rounds were 28 and 22. These gave him 50 for his total. Bruce’s, prize money was $100.
Mark Tortorella won the second place money. This was $75. Tortorella’s scores were 22 and 25—47 total.
Cully Johnston got the third place money. This was $70. Johnston’s scores were 21 and 21—42 total.
Robert A. Black Golf Course is a nine holes golf course. Therefore, each official, tournament round consisted of two, nine holes rounds. (On each of the two days, the golfers played one round from the back tees and one round from the front tees.)
Contestants probably had more difficulty with the third hole than with any other hole. The third hole is par four, 346 yards, but its challenges are significant. It has almost a 90°, left dogleg. The fairway and rough area have at least one hillock and one swale. On the fairway’s left, an odd-shaped, medium size sand bunker is in the rough area. (This bunker’s position is within 50 yards of where the left dogleg begins.) As golfers approach the putting green, they should have noticed three sand bunkers.
