UTSA Baseball have continued their good start to the season, as they managed a 6-3 win, sweeping Louisiana Tech on Sunday at Roadrunner Field.
John Welborn was the star for UTSA as he managed to go 3-for-5 for the night managing three runs, while RJ Perucki went 2-for-5, managing three RBIs in the process.
Perucki got two of his runs in the first and third innings, helping UTSA get out to a 2-0 lead in the early stages of the game.
It was a productive out from Perucki that opened the scoring in the first , sending Welborn home, before his single to left allowed Welborn to score again.
In the fifth an RBI single from Bre’Shon Kimbell put Louisiana Tech on the board, before a Sacrifice Fly saw the Bulldogs level the scores.
But the seventh was all UTSA, with Welborn opening up with a solo shot over the left-field wall before Perucki got his third RBI of the night. The Bulldogs threw an intentional walk to load the bases, but couldn’t get the job done as John Bormann managed a two-run double, to make it 6-2.
At the top of the eighth Steven Blanchard’s double gave Louisiana Tech some hope as they narrowed the gap to 6-3, but that was as good as it got for the Bulldogs as the UTSA defense closed the match down.
UTSA now sit at 19-9, their second best ever 28 game start, behind the 1994 team which went 21-7 on the way to the NCAA tournament.
The thrills will continue for UTSA, as they will have their next game, an I-35 derby against Texas State, aired live on ESPN 3 on Tuesday night.
