Each year more and more rural communities and counties in which they reside struggle to make ends meet. One solution to ending those struggles is tourism, more specifically senior tourism.
"If you can present your area, and the different businesses and items that you have in your area for people to go to and see, then you have brought them to your area to spend money in your area. They also have a better view of what your area is like.” Those were the words of Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce President Mary Anne Campbell. Campbell led a delegaation of business leaders to the Humble Civic Center on Tuesday February 7th to present their sales pitch to individuals, groups, and travel planners. The opportunity was made possible by the Harris County Precinct 4 Senior Adult Program which sponsored the 2012 Destinations Galore Travel Show.
With more then 160 vendors, the competition is fierce but with the event behind them, the hard work begins as chamber reps will now be charged with must do follow-up and help would-be tourists to plan their itineraries. “Of course, we serve all of South Liberty County. So we have our museums, whether they are small or large. We have the shops — same thing, small or large, and those that are unique in their own way. We promote the Liberty Jubilee, the Dayton Ole Tyme Days Festival and just everything that is there that will bring the tourism to our community and to our area.”
Only time will tell the success of the fruits of their labor.
