Watching the Olympics on television is exciting, but being a part of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games is even more exciting. The “Road to Sochi” Tour that began with a 100 day countdown celebration in New York’s Time Square is making a final cross-country farewell tour and with demonstrations and photo opportunities that are the next best thing to being there. The tour is sponsored by Liberty Mutual and admission is free.
The grand finale began in Los Angeles the date of the opening ceremonies on February 7 at the Event Deck of LA Live! The generous support of LA Live! Owner, AEG, gave the program a large space for demonstrations of Winter Olympic sports. Visitors tried out photo ops in a 2 seat bobsled, a simulated ski jump, a replica short track skate track, a digitized biathlon training module and an indoor luge track on wheels. A separate exhibit features memorabilia and historic video of figure skating championships. Special guest stars from Olympics past share their experiences and coach visitors who want to try out a winter sport on site.
After burning extra calories trying out Winter Olympic sports, visitors can sample recovery drinks supplied by Team USA sponsor Coca-Cola. Zico Coconut Water, a recent addition to the Coca-Cola lineup, presents a refreshing tropical taste that matches the look of the palm lined beaches of Sochi. Chobani Greek Yoghurt is also revitalizing visitors with its protein packed selection. These same sponsors’ sports nutrition and refreshment programs are currently being featured at USA House in Sochi for on-site visitors to the 2014 Winter Games.
There are three more stops on this national tour during the 2014 Winter Olympics. This Saturday, February 15, Solaris Plaza in Vail, Colorado will host the event. The Chicago program will take place at Pioneer Court on February 19 and 20. The Road to Sochi tour will conclude in New York with a special broadcast of the 2014 Winter Games Closing Ceremonies at Grand Central Station on Sunday, February 23.
