Road to Freedom Conference addresses healthcare based on spiritual insights

Have you ever considered spiritual healing to complement your medical needs? A free March 22 conference called “A Road to Freedom” addresses the practice. It will take place at American Legion Post #130, 400 N. Oak Street, Falls Church, VA from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“When we align our thoughts with God and his Word, we have a much better path to healing,” said Brenda Byrd-Wright, conference organizer. She said people who had been diagnosed with incurable diseases will be there to talk about their healing process.

The conference is sponsored by the non-profit Restore 2 Life, a spiritual and health ministry. One of its board members, Mia Robinson, said she was diagnosed with 28 ailments, including breast cancer. “Even with heavy medication, I wasn’t guaranteed a complete recovery,” said Robinson. “But God turned that around,” she said. “Five years later, he has completely healed me.”

Skeptics argue that medical science shouldn’t be ignored or denied when it comes to health care, but there is some evidence of the power of the human mind and some say, faith.

According to Julie Corliss, Executive Editor of the Harvard Heart Letter, researchers from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD sifted through 19,000 meditation studies and found 47 trials that met criteria for well-designed studies. “Their findings,” she wrote in Harvard’s Health Blog, “published in JAMA’s Internal Medicine, suggest that mindfulness meditation can help ease psychological stresses like anxiety, depression and pain.”

Gallup’s Healthways Well-Being Index finds that 17.2% of Americans were uninsured in the last quarter of 2013. Eleven percent said they were under stress and 4.1% said they were suffering. But, more than half reported themselves thriving.

Linda and Wendell Knight will serve as the conference’s keynote speakers. “Medical science shows us that there is a powerful link between our mind and our body," said Linda Knight. "For every thought we have, there is a corresponding effect in our body. Over time, this can result in illness or disease. The good news is that there is an answer. By learning how to line our thoughts up with those of God and His Word, our bodies have a much better chance of healing,” she said.

Workshops at the Road to Freedom Conference include such topics as The Body, Mind & Spirit Connection; Emotional Disorders; Anger and Inflammation; Strokes, Fear & Rejection; Toxic Emotions, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Asthma & Cancer.
