The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is updating motorists on road condition throughout the day Sunday. According to Keith Todd, Public Information officer for District 2, which includes Paducah and McCracken counties, the snow is accumulating on roadways and crews are treating roads in the following counties as of 8:18 am, CST.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinetsupervisors in Kentucky's 12 westernmost counties of Highway District 1 have been out evaluating highway conditions since about 5:00 a.m., CT. At this time crews in Ballard County and McCracken County have been called in to spot-treat bridges and overpasses.
Additional counties are being called in at this time and are gearing up to respond as needed to developing weather conditions.
The US Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the area. High winds have combined with dropping temperatures to quickly lower pavement temps and allowing snow to stick to driving surfaces.
Motorists should use extra caution on bridges and overpasses where surface temps can drop more quickly allowing moisture on driving surfaces to freeze. Wind gusts of 30 mph expected through the day will also make for hazardous driving conditions and hamper road salting operations.
KYTC District 1 is responsible for about 2800 miles of highway.
