Roach predicts Pacquiao KO over Cotto

Pacquiao wil look to knockout Cotto on November 14

Freddie Roach in recent years has become a wonderful promoter of Manny Pacquiao fights, along with doing a pretty good job of training the pound for pound champ.

When Manny has a fight, Roach makes bold predictions of knock-out victories and Pacquiao has been able to deliver in his most high profile bouts against Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

Now, just days after the official announcement of Pacquiao's November 14 fight with Miguel Cotto, Roach has made another bold prediction.

Speaking to Carlos Gonzalez, a fine Puerto Rican fight scribe who covers boxing for Primera Hora, Roach said, "I do not have anything bad to say about Miguel Cotto.  I believe he is an excellent athlete who always gets ready for his fights, but I am confident en Manny's abilities and we are going to knockout Cotto."

So Pacquiao and his coach Roach will look to conquer a feat only full-fledged welterweight Antonio Margarito was able to do after punishing Cotto for 11 brutal rounds.

If Manny is coming for the knockout, he better be prepared for a bloody war, but that being said, one has to admire a boxer and trainer who set their goals high and reach them more times than not.  It is the sort of talk we want to hear before a bout and as I have already written, this fight should deliver incredible fireworks.

What will fuel Manny to a knockout victory?

"Manny and Miguel have many similarities in their fighting styles, but Manny's speed will be too much for Miguel," said Roach.

Speed kills, but so do the blows of a young, prime welterweight.

Roach needs to relax. Pacquiao has never been in the ring with such a powerful boxer, except for JMM. Pacquiao did not knock out JMM, nor will he knock out cott, of whom has stood the punches of Mosely and Margarito. I hope Cotto breaks down that "Filipino" and maybe then he may be admired for trying to fight guys somewhere near their weights instead of calling of fighters to come down in weight for him.

ALL THAT REGGEATON MOVES BOTH KNEES BENT WHILE MOVIN SIDE TO SIDE TO DELIVER HARD BODY PUNCH IS NOT GONNA WORK PAPI BY THE TIME THAT BODY PUCH HITS MANNY, MANNY"S SUPER FAST RIGHT JAB ST8 TO THE FACE THEN A POWERFULL LEFT HOOK ON CHIN LIGHTS OUT PAPI...

NO NEED FOR ROACH TO SAY ITS GONA BE A KNOCKOUT! IT WILL BE A KNOCKOUT.. TEAM PACQUIAO GOT A NEW WEAPON FOR THE BIGGER FRAME M.COTTO AND MANNY WILL USE IT 3MIN. PER ROUND..

ITS NOT IN OUT NATURE TO BAD MOUTH FIGHTERS SPECIALLY M.COTTO. WE KNOW WHAT TODO AND WE TEAM PAQUIAO ARE NOT AFRAID TO USE IT COME FIGHT NITE.

gus if you look at cotto's fighting weight it's around 146 for the clottey fight. manny last fought at around 140. going down 1 pound versus going up 5 pounds, who do you think has the advantage? manny has fought bigger guys, and this is the first time he ask for catchweight and they gave him 1 pound less. he fought de la hoya at 147lbs. and that was de la hoya's choice so if you don't know what you are talking about you might as well keep your mouth shut.

    Gus,
    which would you rather have?
manny calling out flyweights, bantam weights, featherweights to come up to 140 and fight him or get the bigboys that walk around 160, true welterweights to come down a bit and fight him?

which would make for an exciting fight?

    Hey Ricardo,

Seems you are rooting for Cotto, put money where your mouth is.

Hey, remember what Michael Moorer said before Pacquiao's fight against Ricky Hatton that Manny has a hand of heavyweight and this was followed up by Freddie Roach that he doesn't care whether Cotto's fight with Manny will be 145, 147 or 200 pounts....as Freddie Roach knows best...believe it. Scrap any boxing analysis on this fight, just listen to Freddie Roach. He is the great modern day technician and strategist in the sweet science.

i will bet on Cotto come november 14. I think there's too much hype for Pacquiao, but remember Cotto is not 3K Battery but more of a Rustico Torrecampo

  • collguy123 2 years ago

cotto will loose. he will probobly quite. hes not respected in PR like trinidad and such. I would bet on manny winning. I would be VERY surprised if cotto wins this even by DECISION. I want manny to go up against shane a beast who will tear mannys head off. Puerto Ricans always play the race card and when they get there shot they end up screwing up!

  • Jose Declet 2 years ago

Cotto will catch Paquiao coming in with a short right in the early rounds that will set the tempo for Cotto. K.O. for Cotto mid rounds.
