RJ Smiles Inc. seeks donations for people in need of smiles

RJ Smiles, Inc., dedicated to sharing smiles and helping individuals in need, is on a mission to raise $5,000.00 in donations for select individuals in the state of Maryland, who have experienced setbacks. They are seeking the community’s assistance.

Founder Margaret E. Jackson began this foundation almost three years ago, after her son, Richard Jackson died in a car crash, due to the negligence of a reckless driver.

In a recent Partners in Health & Biz radio show, Jackson shared her story.

“This has been an amazing journey,” she began. “It has been truly fantastic. We started out with our focus being to share smiles with the community, and what that meant to us was helping people who were feeling a little down, a little out of sorts, who were going through some struggles -- helping them and put smiles on their faces,” she explained.

To date, the RJ Smiles Foundation has conducted coat drives and distributed coats, sponsored back-to-school drives; taken school supplies to various elementary and middle school children, fed seniors, adopted a family, assisted them with food and financial donations, in addition to providing presents for their children.

“We are moving into 2014 with our focus being on helping people who have had challenges; rediscover and achieve their dreams,” said Jackson. “And this is obviously very near and dear to my heart because I know what it’s like to kind of lose the dream you had, and have to rediscover and move towards either a new dream, or tweaking the dream that you originally had.”

RJ Smiles has set up a program where individuals can apply for help by going online to the RJ website. Individuals are required to send in information describing their dream, through the website’s comment page. The organization will then chose a number of people and help them with financial support, resources and mentorship.

“We want them to be successful,” Jackson continued. “We don’t want to just say, ‘here’s some money, go at it.’ We want to say, here’s some funding to help you, but here’s someone who can also help you with your dreams.”
