The “Rizzoli & Isles” showrunner is stepping down and taking on a new role as a consultant. UPI reports on Sept. 14 that Janet Tamaro is leaving her job as a showrunner to work on other projects. However, she is not completely abandoning “Rizzoli & Isles” because she will continue to provide consulting services.
Tamaro has been the showrunner for “Rizzoli & Isles” since 2010, but she is stepping down from this role. Although she will finish the fourth season and help as a consultant for the fifth season, Tamaro’s involvement will decrease significantly. “Rizzoli & Isles” has not announced the new showrunner.
Tamaro explains she is moving on to work on new projects and feels proud of the show’s success, but this was not an easy decision. “The heartache for me will be leaving the day-to-day working relationship with an incredible cast and crew,” she adds. The showrunner is rumored to be in the process of serious talks about an upcoming thriller that may be the next hit show.
The showrunner has suggested that the death of Lee Thompson Young influenced her decision, but it was not the only reason behind her move to explore other projects. Tamaro admits to reevaluating her entire career. On her official Twitter account, she points out her desire to create another popular show with strong female characters. Previously, Tamaro wrote, “Change is liberating,” and she indicated that she had made a bold decision.
