A complex of three luxury hotel properties (Rosewood, Fairmont and Banyan Tree) that are partnered with nearby El Camaleón Golf Club----Mayakoba Resort lies on of 593 acres of ecologically diverse land dotted with lagoons, mangrove forests, cenotes, canals, and sandy beaches. More than 148 acres of mangrove forests along the coastline are a precious refuge for nesting birds and for the hatcheries of young fish and turtles. Protecting the endangered mangrove trees, the resort has allowed the forest to increase by 100% , with the result that wildlife hasgrown  from 35 species to more than 200.

A Greg Norman design, 7,024- yard El Camaleón Golf Club winds through jungle and mangroves, sand dunes and lagoons before heading to the sea. The course hosts the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which this year takes place this month, February 22-26, 2012.
