A Riverhead man was arrested last Tuesday on burglary charges after he was stopped for speeding in West Hampton Dunes, New York State Police said in a news release.
Melvin Herrera, 22, was charged with second-degree burglary after constables stopped him for allegedly speeding along Dune Road in the Village of West Hampton Dunes around 10 p.m. on Oct. 1.
The constables noticed two large screen televisions inside his car and became suspicious, a news release said. The village authorities contacted state troopers at the Riverside Barracks and conducted an investigation.
State Police said Herrera told investigators that he stole the televisions from a home in the Village of West Hampton Dunes. When reached by phone, a West Hampton Dunes constable declined to comment on the case.
Authorities said Herrera would be arraigned at the Village of West Hampton Dunes Justice Court. It was unclear when the court proceeding would take place.
