Anglers from around the Southeast came to the Atlanta area this weekend to test their angling skills in local rivers. Riverbassin.com has organized a Tournament Trail that will visit four states in five tournaments giving away over $40,000 worth of prizes.
The tournaments are set up on a Catch-Photo-Release, or CPR, system, with a 3- Black Bass limit. In this system, anglers are given a measuring device and photo identifier and photograph their legal catches on the measuring device. The longest combination of three different bass wins.
A unique feature about this tournament as opposed to many others of their kind is the ability for the anglers to pick and choose any river within a specified boundary they want to fish. This feature makes skill and careful planning a much larger element to success than other kayak fishing tournaments.
25 Anglers in kayaks and canoes participated in the inaugural event. Adult anglers could fish either in the “Avid” division or “Casual” division, the latter being a reduced cost and prize. Anglers under the age of 16 could also compete in the “Young River Basser” Division.
In the “Young River Basser” Division, Graham Rodgers sealed the win with a three bass limit of 38”. “Casual Angler” Randy Meredith came out on top in his division with three bass measuring in at 41.5”. The “Avid Angler” Division was clinched by Florida angler, Hal Lambert who used a SPRO BBZ-1 Jr. 6” swimbait to pull 3 shoal bass measuring 60.75”, putting him over 10” ahead of the 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Mr. Lambert also caught the biggest fish of the tournament, a 21” Shoal Bass.
