The Los Angeles Kings will begin their highly anticipated first round playoff series against the San Jose Sharks starting this Thursday, April 17, 2014. The Sharks hold home-court advantage for this series meaning we won’t see the Kings in STAPLES Center until Game 3 of the series on Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Kings finished the regular season with a 46-28-8 record and are looking to capture their second Stanley Cup title in franchise history.
The Kings- Sharks rivalry has picked up in recent years with many gut-wrenching moments and hard fought wins. Over the past three seasons, the Kings and Sharks have met twice in a playoff series with the two teams splitting a series victory.
The Kings will look to keep up their stellar defense which leads the league in goals against with an average of 2.0 goals throughout the season. Kings center Anze Kopitar hopes to provide an offensive spark during the playoffs as he leads the team in goals and assists this season.
As a regular trend between the Kings and Sharks playoff series, the home team has won 16 of the past 17 games. The Kings boast a respectable 23-14-4 record on the road, but will face one of the best Western Conference home records in the Sharks. “Going on the road, I don’t think is a problem for this team,” said Kings captain Dustin Brown. “But the other side of the coin is that San Jose has been one of the best home teams in the league consistently over the last few years.”
