Today from 2-6pm Chef De Cuisine Andres Meraz from The Dilido Beach Club at The Ritz Carlton South Beach and five other local chefs will go head to head in the National Battledish competition. Battledish is the world’s largest chef competition taking place in cities around the world. According to their website, local chefs compete by presenting their dish to the public who cast their vote on who will be named King. A portion of the proceeds for this event will go to The Mourning Family Foundation.

The event is open to the public and guests will go on a culinary adventure walking from venue to venue tasting all the dishes and then voting on their favorite. Check in is at Quattro Gastronomia Italiana on Lincoln Road and all the venues are within walking distance. In addition to Chef Andres Meraz from The Dilido Beach Club at the Ritz, the other participating restaurants include: Baires Grill, Quattro Gastronomia Italiana, The Social Club, Barezzito South Beach, and Terrazza at the Shore Club. The winner of Battledish Miami will then go on to compete against other city winners until only one is left; the King of the Battledish.

Chef Meraz is excited to be a part of this competition and has prepared a dish called Di’Crudo. Di’Crudo is Corvina fish, calamari and prawns marinated in a mixture of fresh lime juice, Thai coconut milk and spicy Mexican sauce. The seafood is then fused with red onion, cilantro and grilled pineapple. The final touch is a garnish of crispy sweet potato, micro cilantro, micro leeks and edible flowers.

To drink, Di’Crudo is paired with a special cocktail named Di’spicy Rita. This concoction is Herradura anejo tequila combined with a jalapeno puree, Cointreau, sweet and tangy pineapple juice, tart fresh lemon/lime sour mix, the sweetness of simple syrup and the frothiness of egg whites.

Tickets to come and taste Chef Meraz’s dish and explore the other restaurants range from: $15 general admission with $5 additional per drink to $125 for a VIP ticket that includes dishes and drinks at all six venues plus early admission.
