Ritchie leads Canada to quarterfinal win at Spengler Cup

According to the Spengler Cup website, former Calgary Flame Byron Ritchie scored twice on Sunday as Canada defeated the Rochester Americans 6-3 in Spengler Cup action from Davos, Switzerland.

With the quarterfinal victory, Team Canada advanced to the semi-finals a team from Geneva, Switzerland at noon Mountain time.

Ritchie, who played for the Calgary Flames from 2005-2007, scored Canada's first goal of the contest to open the scoring at 7:31 of the first period from former National Hockey League veteran Jason Williams. He then scored Canada's fifth goal on the power play at 10:05 of the third period from Travis Roche and Darren Haydar. Jacob Micflikier also scored two goals for Canada.

Ritchie has had an excellent tournament for Canada, who are trying to defend their title from a year ago, when they were the class of the field. Ritchie, a native of Burnaby, British Columbia, scored the game tying goal for Canada in their 5-4 victory over Vitkovice on Thursday and had two assists in a 3-2 loss to HC Davos on Saturday. HC Davos, the host team, will play CSKA Moscow in the other semi-final.
