Rita Wilson, Kim Kardashian talk fitness in March Harper's Bazaar

February 18, 2011

Kim Kardashian gets the cover shot in the March, 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar, where word is she also talked about packing on the pounds while filming her new show in NYC. (It's nice to know that even a Kardashian isn't immune to the calories in nuts and hot dogs and wonderful, fragrant food from street vendors.)

Harper's Bazaar also sent out word to fitness writers that Rita Wilson had plenty to say about her weight-loss journey and in the March magazine she talks candidly about working out with Jillian Michels. Wilson, the lovely 54-year-old wife of Tom Hanks, is no slug when it comes to keeping her body in shape. She played the Broadway role of Roxie Hart in Chicago (2006) and is known for her tv and movie roles. Still, extra calories in, fewer calories out....well, the same rules apply to her as to Kim Kardashian and to all of us. (If you don't know how demanding the role of Roxie can be, check out the upcoming production of Chicago in San Jose.)

The magazine hits the newsstands February 22 (you can head over to Barnes & Noble locally among other distributors here in Silicon Valley), but you can check it out online now where she makes some reveals that will ring true to many 50+ active women:

On meeting Jillian Michaels: "I knew she was a killer trainer, but when I met Jillian at a women's conference last year, I was immediately taken by her openness and warmth."

On fitness motivations: "We all have a story we tell ourselves: 'I'm weak.' 'I've never been able to lose weight.' 'I'm big boned.' 'I'm menopausal and my metabolism has changed.' 'I can't take time for myself.' I read somewhere once that if your fantasies are your own, why not make them great ones? Why not 'I will look like Gisele in a thong?'"

On achieving her fitness goals: "I feel strong. I want to live life fully and healthfully. Now my weight is more about my health than about what I look like, although looking good in clothes is a nice by-product. I love life, and I love this imperfect body. I am learning to take care of myself, my body, and my spirit. I feel hotter than ever."

Great cover shot, thanks for giving us more incentive and motivation to do something about the activity we need for proper fitness.

  • As you said, Amy, it is nice to know that it is not only us common folk that have the problems of staying away from foods, and thus needing to workout to keep it off. I battle both syndromes everyday of my life. :)
