The first day of spring is Wednesday, and, as tradition, Rita's Italian Ice is giving away free ice to each customer. But, this year there's something new besides flavors.
The special edition cup for the free ice will invite customers to become members of Rita's new rewards program, available only through their new smartphone app. Rita's Rewards will allow members to earn a free regular ice after eight visits. And, the visit for free ice on Wednesday counts.
"Our guests asked us to develop a fun Rita's app, so we built Rita's Rewards for smartphone users and plan to continue enhancing it to include a Rita's Italian Ice Factory game coming this spring," Rita's Cheif Executive Officer Jonathan Fornaci said.
The free app, available by scanning the QR code on the cup or in the App Store and Google Play, also allows members to write reviews, share on social media, set the jingle as their ringtone, get alerts for when their favorite flavors are available and find the nearest Rita's location.
Rita's has been celebrating the first day of spring with free ice since 1992. In those 21 years, the company given away almost 10 million free cups of ice.
Rita's locations can be found in Berlin, Blackwood, Bordentown, Burlington, Cherry Hill, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Glassboro, Hammonton, Medford, Moorestown, Mt. Holly, Mt. Laurel, Pennsauken, Runnemede, Sewell, Turnersville, Voorhees, Westmont and Willingboro. There is also a year-round location in the Moorestown Mall.
