Rita Dove comes to Busboys and Poets

Busboys and Poets has announced that Rita Dove will be coming to their 14th and V location tomorrow night, Wednesday October 26, at 6:30 PM. Dove served as the Poet Laureate Consultant to the Library of Congress in 1993, and then later was re-appointed as the Special Bicentennial Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1999-2000. A resident of Charlottesville, VA since 1989, Governor Mark Warner then named her the Poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1994-1995.

Dove’s poems cannot be pigeonholed into one school, form or genre; her wide range of talents is impressive. In 1987 she received the Pulitzer Prize for a collection of poems titled Thomas and Beulah (Carnegie-Mellon University Press, 1986), and in 1994 she published the play The Darker Face of the Earth. She collaborated with John Williams on the song cycle “Seven For Luck” for the White House Millenium New Year’s celebration in 1999/2000. Finally, she has received many honors and awards in her career.
