Rissling, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, has played the last four seasons with the Calgary Hitmen. In 2012-13, he had five goals and 23 assists for 28 points in 61 regular season games. He also showed some toughness, as he had 122 penalty minutes. Rissling also added six assists in 17 postseason games.
Over four seasons with the Hitmen, Rissling has 15 goals and 65 assists for 80 points. He was also selected by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round, 197th overall in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Rissling takes over from Cody Sylvester, who was the Hitmen captain over the last two seasons. Sylvester showed exceptional leadership with the franchise. Last season he won the Western Hockey League's Humanitarian Award.
A solid season for Rissling could spark some greater interest from Capitals' management.
