The long awaited premiere of “Rising Star” was on Sunday night, so viewers, get to download the app and participate live on which performer moves on to the next round by voting and if this reaches the 70% mark then the wall rises, otherwise, the performer is sent home. The judges are Ludacris, Ke$ha, and Brad Paisley who seem to be working on being a cohesive panel, the host is Josh Groban, who is engaging and exuding trustworthiness.
And Joshua Peavy was the first singer to face the wall and his voice was outstanding, raspy, with passion, and overall he received an 87 percent. Next was Lisa Punch, entertaining to a point, it will be interesting to see how far she goes in the competition she received an 80 percent. Then came Maneepat Molloy singing an Italian song that border on the opera side and she was fascinating, she received a total of 73 percent. Then there was a duo Daniel & Olivia and they only received 6 percent, and they sounded all right for a night of karaoke, but for this competition they fell short. And then Jesse Kinch auditioned and what a fascinating voice, only 20 years old and yet sounded so seasoned and professional, great performance and he received 92 percent along with a standing ovation from audience and judges alike. A boy group was next Beyond 5, all that needs to be said is that they only received 45 percent not entertaining and the vocals were not up to par with what is expected in such a competition. Sarah Darling was next and her voice was new, entertaining and without question seasoned, she received 89 percent. Colin Huntley came and his voice was missing that ring or tone that holds a listener, it sounded somewhat imitated and not at all entertaining, he only received 38 percent. Summer Collins was next, she had a great story, great personality and beautiful, but her voice was not impressive at all and only received 40 percent. And the last performer was Macy Kate who had auditioned through instagram and was in the audience and unaware that she would be asked to auditioned and after a few minutes of practice came on stage and blew everyone away with an outstanding performance that earned her a 93 percent and highest percentage of the night.
This show is definitely full of surprises and not only do the auditions continue next week, but there also is the question as to how the entire show will evolve and how will the first winner be chosen.
“Rising Star” runs on Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
