What is it?
It's the only event on the ASP World Tour with a floating license, meaning that it can be moved from location to location every year. It is comprised of the worlds top 34 surfers and 2 wildcards.
When is it?
The holding period will begin November 1st and close November 12th. There will be 4 full days of competition that do not have to run consecutively. Conditions can change rapidly so a day that starts off with a few heats can easily be put on hold until the next window of ideal conditions opens up. Do not be surprised however if some days run heats from dawn until dusk. Heats typically run 30 minutes each but it is still unknown whether more time will be needed due to jet ski assistance not being allowed at this event.
Where is it?
Ocean Beach San Francisco. The official contest site is stairway 18 - 20, however there is a backup site at stairway 1 (Kelly's Cove) incase the peak is better up there.
Event details
By 7:30 am every morning of the competition a decision will be made whether or not to run the competition on that day for an approximate 8:00 am start. Updates will be available at live.ripcurl.com
Parking and spectating
The parking lots at the event will generally be closed to the public. Best plan is to use public transportation or walk/bike to the beach. There will be select food trucks and drinks available for purchase but it is advisable to bring your own water bottle. There will be water stations to refill at the event.
