RIP Archie: Iconic comic book character to die in July issue of 'Life of Archie'

Sadly, Archie will soon be joining Superman as the only major comic book characters to die in their series. Archie isn't a superhero but sources say he will meet his end in the most heroic way. The fate sealing comic book will be released in July according to an April 8 report by CNN.

Archie has been delighting comic book readers since it's inception in 1941. Most comic book readers are familiar with the Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. Matter of fact, if asked to name one non-superhero comic book, the Archie series would come up time and again.

The "Life of Archie" series is the most recent of the classic comic books. This series followedArchie after high school and college. Many readers followed and are most familiar with the "Archie and Friends" series that chronicled their high school years.

"Life With Archie" #36 will be released in comic book stores on July 16 and marks the end of an era with Archie. The death of Archie in this book also lines up with 75 years of Archie comic books.

The Archie brand is trying to redefine itself and become more desirable to younger comic book readers. In addition to news of Archie's impending death, other news includes plans for Lena Dunham of "Girls" fame to pen four issues centered around the lives of the girls.
