Thanks to the generosity of AMC Theaters, children and their families can watch a movie at a real theater and not worry about being too loud, too wiggly, too sensitive to noise, or even too scared of the dark.

In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down. Families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks (AMC popcorn with no butter is GF/CF). No previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC’s “Silence is Golden®” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned. It will just be other special needs families in attendance, so there isn't a worry about bothering anyone else in the audience.

It is the hope that these accommodations mean that families who have hesitated to go to a movie theater will be encouraged to give it a try. Friends and relatives are welcome to join the fun.

Rio film summary:

From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side.  Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend, Linda, in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota.  Blu and Linda think he's the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blue's female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers.  With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise cracking and smooth talking city birds, Blu escapes.  Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.
