"Rio 2" debuted at No. 1 for movie digital sales and rentals from June 30 to July 6, 2014, according to Rentrak. The list includes Internet Video on Demand (iVOD) and Electronic Sell-Through (EST), for both Standard-Definition and Digital HD movie purchases and rentals. (Rentrak's chart for movies on demand is a chart that ranks movies rented through traditional TV outlets.) It’s a jungle out there for birds Blu, Jewel and their three kids in "Rio 2," after they’re hurtled from that magical city to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all: his father-in-law. This animated film has an all-star voice cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Will.i.am, Jemaine Clement, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, George Lopez, Rodrigo Santoro, Andy Garcia, Rita Moreno, Natalie Morales, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jamie Foxx. "Rio 2" got mixed reviews from critics but was a big hit in movie theaters.

"The Lego Movie" held steady at No. 2. This original 3-D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously under-prepared. The movie's voice cast includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. "The Lego Movie" was highly praised by critics and was a blockbuster in cinemas.

"300: Rise of an Empire" dropped from No. 1 to No. 3. After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land. Starring Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro and Eva Green. "300: Rise of an Empire" got mixed reviews from critics, but it was a big hit with movie-going audiences.

"The Grand Budapest Hotel" fell from No. 3 to No. 4. The comedy film "The Grand Budapest Hotel" recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent. Starring Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Edward Norton, Mathieu Amalric, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Léa Seydoux, Jeff Goldblum, Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Tony Revolori. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" was well-received by critics and movie audiences.

"Transcendence" debuted at No. 5. Dr. Will Caster (played by Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed — to be a participant in his own transcendence. Also starring Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Kate Mara. "Transcendence" got mostly negative reviews from critics, and the movie was a box-office flop.
