In a statement issued Oct., 28, Ringo Starr says he is looking forward to meeting with the Beatle fans in the now famous photograph featured in his Genesis Publications book “Photograph.” The meeting will take place in November in Las Vegas, the last stop on a tour by his All-Starr Band tour which begins Oct. 29 in South America. The fans were identified after a nationwide search initiated by a story in USA Today.
"How great that they found these people! And how cool to now know a little of their story and what that moment was like from their perspective. Right now, I'm off in Latin America on tour and I won't be back until November when we play two shows at the Palms in Las Vegas. I look forward to meeting them when I get back. See you in Las Vegas! Peace & love, Ringo"
The story, covered by newspapers in both the U.S. and UK, identified the fans as being from New York and not from Florida as Starr had originally thought. Bob Toth, now 66, who was in the passenger seat, said the photo resulted in the group getting suspended from school for cutting class.
The Beatle and his All Starr Band begin a tour starting Tuesday that will cover South America and Mexico, ending with two shows at the Palms in Las Vegas. where Ringo will meet them. He arrived in Brazil this morning. The tour was launched last week with a press event in Los Angeles, including a presentation of Ringo's new Genesis Publications book “Photograph.” Veteran photographer Henry Diltz discussed Ringo's photography and 13-time Grammy Award winner Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) and fellow drummer Steve Gorman from the Black Crowes discussed Ringo's drumming.
In June, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles opened "Ringo: Peace & Love," an exhibit which has had over 90,000 visitors and will remain open through March, 2014. June also saw the release of Ringo's first ebook, also called “Photograph,” featuring never-before-seen images from his personal archives.
