When Ringo Starr turns 70 on July 7, the party will resonate all over the world.
Celebrations that day will include gatherings at Ringo’s star on the Walk of Fame at Capitol Records in Los Angeles, Abbey Road, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland and a gathering with "Love" cast members at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas.
Ringo himself will be at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City to join in a simple "peace and love" salute. He started this tradition in 2008 when asked in a TV interview what he wanted for his birthday, he said, "more peace and love." He encouraged everyone everywhere to say "peace and love" at noon their local time.
The Abbey Road event is being organized by Richard Porter, who leads Beatles walking tours in London and is author of the third edition of "Guide to The Beatles London" (available from http://www.beatlesinlondon.com/Beatles_London_Guide.htm). Porter is organizer of the event at Abbey Road Studios.
"Fans will be gathering outside Abbey Road Studios to wish Ringo 'peace and love' at noon," he said. Members of the 60s band the Overtures will lead a Ringo/Beatles singalong. A mass crossing of Abbey Road will follow. He says everyone is welcome. Fans should meet at Abbey Road by 11.45 a.m. or at the Beatles Coffee Shop, St John's Wood Underground Station at 11.30 a.m.
Fans can also gather at the Ringo Starr star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame near Hollywood and Vine at the Capitol Records tower in Los Angeles at noon July 7 for a birthday celebration.
And this year, you can also say it, tweet it, sing it or simply think it. You can send messages and photos to Facebook.com/Beatles. Videos can be sent to http://www.youtube.com/RingoLove2010. (RingoLove2010 is the official YouTube channel for his birthday videos.) Send also tweets using the hashmark #ringolove2010 to Twitter.com/thebeatles. Fab4radio.com is also suggesting tweeting "peace and love" to all your tweetpeeps and your friends on Facebook.
Of course, the night of July 7, Ringo will be performing at Radio City Music Hall. Everyone is hoping that guests -- one in particular -- will show up.
