Ringo Starr joins tributes to Beatles mentor Tony Sheridan

Ringo Starr added his statement to many others who have paid tribute to the late Tony Sheridan. The musician, who played and sang with the Beatles in Germany, died Saturday.

“Just say goodbye to Tony Sheridan just he died I had a great month 19 6061 playing with him was great bye R***,” he posted on his Twitter account late Monday. Fellow Beatle Paul McCartney previously posted a memorial statement on his website.

His family announced his passing on Facebook Saturday saying, ““Our beloved father and friend! Thank you for your love and inspiration. You left us today at 12:00 p.m. Your loving family, Wendy, Bennet, Felim, Amber and Arunima, Rosi and Ricky."

Former Beatles drummer Pete Best, who also played with Sheridan, also posted a statement on his official Facebook page, saying, It is with the greatest of regrets I heard that my friend and a man I spent many hours with on stage, recorded with and regarded as a very special musician passed away this morning. I will miss him, but he will always live in my memories. Rest in peace Mr. Tony Sheridan (The Teacher), Pete.”

Beatles author Spencer Leigh wrote an obituary that appeared in the UK Independent.
