Ringo Starr says hearing Elvis Presley and Little Richard "changed my life" in new radio interview from the BBC now available online through this week. The Beatle talks to BBC 6 radio host Matt Everett and goes deep into his memory banks about his musical career before, during and after the Fab Four.
The discussion includes early memories that gets Ringo sounding very nostalgic. He talks about the first records that inspired him, his first band the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group, his feelings when he first heard Little Richard and Elvis Presley ("it changed my life," he says), his first performance with the Beatles, Beatlemania, the Beatles split and his solo career, including Ringo Starr And His All-Starr Band.
Ringo is quite relaxed during the interview and very forthcoming and it's a superb interview. The program is the first episode of a new BBC 6 music interview series, "The First Time With ...," hosted by Everett, which features in-depth interviews with musical artists.
