The China National Acrobatic Troupe new to show this year
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus

This year the show offers unbelievable acts from China National Acrobatic Troupe members from Beijing. This award winning group has taken the traditional disciplines of Diabolo, Hoop Diving, Pole Climbing and Bicycle Riding and elevated them to a whole new level, fusing traditional disciplines with acrobatics, opera and more.

Troupe members are 18-26 years old and come from many different provinces and cities in China. The best students from acrobatic schools nationwide are invited to join the China National Acrobatic Troupe, many graduating from the Beijing International Arts School or a provincial acrobatic school. Troupe leader Chunyu answered some questions for the Examiner today:

Examiner: How did you come to join the RBBB Circus?
Chunyu: "Mr. Vincio Murillo saw our company's acts in Monte Carlo and he contacted our company."

Examiner: Do you still perform in China?
Chunyu: "The China National Acrobatic Troupe has over one hundred performers. When we perform in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, other performers still perform in and out of China."

Examiner: How is performing in America different from performing in China?
Chunyu: "In China, we don't perform in circus. My company has three theaters where we present the whole show. The audiences are more excited here than in China."

Examiner: How many people are in your troupe?
Chunyu: "28 performers and supporting staff"

Examiner: What is your favorite part of being with the RBBB Circus?
Chunyu: "We can travel to different cities and see different parts of America."

You can experience the new show August 20 through August 25 in San Jose and in San Francisco August 28 through September 1. Also new this year is a VIP experience called Ringmaster Zone. This experience offers the opportunity to walk the Ringling Red Carpet, meet Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson and the stars of the show, step inside the Globe of Steel, take photos on the Ringmaster’s float and have an up-close elephant encounter. Tickets start at $15 on opening night and $20 on all other nights with limited quantity of Ringmaster Zone seats available. All admission tickets include a fun and interactive pre-show on the arena floor. Come early to be close to the animal stars, meet performers, learn circus skills, try on costumes and play!
