If your New Year’s resolution includes getting fit or losing weight, lace up your skates at these post-holiday public skating sessions that will have you gliding into the New Year.

Cost: $5 adults ($6 non-residents)/$3 children, youth and seniors ($4 non-residents)

Start and end the year with some on-ice fun at North Park’s outdoor ice skating rink. Bundle up and brave the chilly temperatures while circling this large rink that overlooks North Park Lake. Bring your own skates or rent a pair for $2.

If you’re attending Pittsburgh’s First Night festivities, be sure to bring your skates along for a spin around the rink at The Rink at PPG Place, downtown Pittsburgh’s seasonal outdoor rink. Enjoy the 60-foot Christmas tree that stands in the center of the ice and share a kiss beneath the stars when the clock strikes midnight. Skate rental is offered for an additional $3.

If you like the idea of skating outdoors, but you’re not quite ready to brave the winter elements, the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center’s Dec. 30 afternoon public skating session may be the best choice for you. Enjoy a taste of winter wonderland on the facility’s Stadium Rink, a partially outdoor open-air ice surface that features a roof and walls with large openings to the outdoors. Skate rental and walker rentals are available for $3 and $2.25 respectively.

Cost: $7 general admission

The Ice Connection of Pittsburgh is one of the few area rinks offering an indoor public skating session on New Year’s Eve. Come check out the newly renovated rink that features new paint and a large flat screen TV visible from the ice. Skate rental is offered for $3.
