Hitting one of Kansas City's hot spots isn't the only option for a New Year's eve celebration. Whether you're planning a big bash or an evening with a few friends, it's easy to add a festive touch with champagne cocktails, or with a delicious champagne punch.
Champagne Punch Recipe
- 1 1/3 cups lemon juice (not lemonade)
- 1 cup superfine sugar
- 1/2 cup Grand Marnier (or other orange liqueur)
- 1/2 cup Triple Sec
- 1/2 cup cognac
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 bottles chilled dry Champagne or sparkling wine
- Orange and/or lemon wheels for garnish
Combine the lemon juice, orange juice, sugar and liqueurs in a non-reactive bowl and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the champagne and stir lightly, just to combine. (Vigorous stirring will destroy the champagne bubbles.) Cover and refrigerate to chill, or about one hour. Pour into a decorative pitcher and garnish with orange and lemon wheels. Serve in champagne flutes or wine glasses.
Don't be worried that serving champagne will break the budget. You don't have to serve Dom Perignon to enjoy the bubbly - local liquor stores carry a variety of sparkling wines in all price ranges.
