Ring in the New Year with a Hummer

See also

If you’re looking for a festive dessert and cocktail all in one to ring in the New Year, look no further than a Hummer. Strictly for adults, it’s a simple concoction of vanilla ice cream; Kahlua and dark rum whirled together like a milkshake. It’s really a perfect after- dinner cocktail year around, but especially festive on New Years Eve when you don’t need an excuse to be extra indulgent.

The secret is quality: With so few ingredients, don’t skimp on quality. Premium ice cream is available at almost any supermarket. Haagen-Dazs is a great option or Applegate Farm if you live in New Jersey.

Not a do-ahead: Hummers are best right out of the blender. If you’re serving hummers for a crowd, get your guests involved, minimizing your work and maximizing their fun.

Make it last with a straw: Channel your inner youth with a “milkshake/smoothie” straw. They’re extra large for thick drinks. SHC found Diamond brand in bright, fun colors like pink and green in the local supermarket. Perfect!
