Ring in 2014: Sobriety New Years Eve Powwow at Grand Traverse Resort Announced

In an ongoing effort at promoting community, culture and wellness, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTBOCI) has announced a New Year's Eve Powwow.

The Sobriety New Years Eve Powwow kicks-off 7 p.m., December 31 at the Michigan Ballroom in the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme, MI.

Events include traditional song, dance, vendor booths and a potluck dinner at 9 p.m. Emceed by Derek Bailey (former GTBOCI Tribal Chairperson, now with 7th Legacy Consulting), the Sobriety New Years Eve Powwow features Dusty Bear as Host Drum and Painted Rock and Urban Nation as Invited Drums, with Meemigwesi as Traditional Drum.

Dancers include Paul Syrette (Head Male Dancer) and Holly Alberts (Head Female Dancer) with Bill Martell (GTBOCI Education) as Head Veteran and Steve Schwander as Arena Director.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass.
