As 2013 gets under way the Top 5 bands from 2012’s Top 25 bands in Long Beach took some time to answer some questions about what is in store for the coming years and where it all began. Here is A.J. Ransdell (singer) and Rikk Agnew (guitar) of Wrong Beach and the number 1 band from 2012.
When did the band form? We’ve been together a little over a year.
How did Wrong Beach find each other? We have all either played music together in the past or have been friends for many years.
What other bands have you played in? The Adolescents, Das Klown, Christian Death, DI, The Crewd, Red Beret, X Members, Hard as Nail Cheap As Dirt & more…
What are the influences of the band? Not sure anymore, we have always been into other bands U.S. & U.K. but I think we’ve been innovators of our own thing. As far as Wrong Beach goes we wanted to do something different and decided to start it off by doing some of our favorite tunes from Long Beach bands that were part of our lives growing up and didn’t necessarily get the recognition they deserved. So we took songs from Rhino 39, Stingers, Suburban Lawns, Funeral, The Runaways, Secret Hate and put our own spin on em’. Along with some old surf, we also dug up some of our own songs that we had written with the other bands we’ve played in. We got a pretty good style coming together for our Wrong Beach originals.
Who writes what in the band? We’re a team and like to keep it that way.
What was your initial reaction when you saw the final vote for 2012’s top bands in LB? It was kinda like “Wow look at that”. I think it’s really cool & just hope to keep the ball rolling.
How important is it to you that your fellow musicians like what you’re doing? We have never really tried to play to please others but we are doing something we believe in and when people enjoy it that’s great.
If you could choose any band off the 2012 top 25 to play a show with who would it be? There are a lot of good ones and it would be nice to play with them all. What I like is the variety of sounds and I think that we could fit in with the works.
What steps are you taking to better yourselves in 2013? Trying to stay healthy and keep a good attitude which can be a challenge in the music world.
Is there any new music in the works? We got a new video for Dark Robot coming out soon and are currently working on a new full length.
What tours do you have planned already? We’ve got some mini tours in the near future, like the mid-west and a possible European tour this summer.
Is there any bands you’re hoping to play with in 2013? Bands like Cadillac Tramps, TSOL, Pennywise and ELO would be nice.
Are there any festivals in the works? We’re playing the Punk Rock Picnic in Long Beach and trying to make the Stig Stench Radio Fest in Austin Texas.
Are you making an appearance at SXSW? That is something that none of us have ever had the chance to do and it would be great.
What are the goals for Wrong Beach in 2013? To keep having fun and hopefully find a label to call home and help get our music out there.
Do you have any last words? We’d like to thank The Examiner, all the people coming out to the shows to see us and ask everyone to check us out on Facebook for upcoming shows ect….
