Rihanna's red lips lead to beauty collaboration with MAC

Rihanna is on a roll. After introducing her fragrance and clothing line, the edgy singer now has a groundbreaking deal with MAC cosmetics, reports WWD on Feb. 20.

Rihanna and MAC will roll out multiple color collections through 2013, reports WWD. The RiRi [Hearts] MAC collections, as they're being called, will feature a signature shade of red lipstick called RiRi Woo, a lipstick inspired by the singer’s favorite MAC red, Ruby Woo.

The release date of the first product will coincide with Rihanna’s Diamonds Tour concerts on May 4 and 5 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The singer notes that creating makeup is similar to creating songs and clothes. It’s all about being creative. She describes the agreement between her and MAC as a “no-brainer.” After all, when it comes to legit makeup, the brand that comes to mind is MAC, she says

“Being creative is something that I love, so I can put that into different outlets. Music happens to be the first thing that I gravitated to, and now music opens doors to just so many different opportunities, and they all tie in. My makeup looks, my fashion looks…they help me to express myself as an artist. I think it helps people to understand me or my mood, my story.”

MAC hopes that this collaboration with Rihanna will prove to be “long-term” and she’ll be more of a “creative partner" than a "collaborator.”

On the other hand, Rihanna said she had a blast working with her girlfriends on packaging, colors, makeup textures and finishes.

“I really got to play,” Rihanna said. “There’s so much to choose from, and you can mix different textures with different colors and different greens in different eye shadows. I learned so much about the detail of makeup and what makes things look different. What makes it apply different is really important. Every little detail is important.”
